  2. STUDIO CONTESTANTS:

    1.        Selection of Studio Contestants and Security

All individuals who meet the Producer’s eligibility requirements will be eligible to qualify for the pool of Studio Contestants, The selection process will include personal interviews by the Producer and the taking and passing a multiple-choice practice examinations. The Studio Contestants will be selected by the Producer at his sole and absolute discretion. The attaining of a specific score on any practice test does not guarantee the selection by the Producer of an individual as a Studio Contestant. The appearance of a prospective Studio Contestant at the studio does not guarantee such person's appearance on any program. The failure of any Studio Contestant to adhere to any security rule or the engaging in any improper conduct may result in his/her immediate disqualification and the return of any prizes previously won.

On the day of cablecast, all Studio Contestants will be met by a chaperone outside the studio in an area designated by the Producer. Prior to entering the studio, each Studio Contestant will be given a Contestant Identification Badge which the Studio Contestant shall wear at all times other than when competing during a program.

Every Studio Contestant must be with a chaperone at all times that the program of which he/she is a part is not being cablecast. This includes the chaperones being in attendance when the Studio Contestants are eating, attending to their personal needs, practicing the game and in the make-up room. No Studio Contestant shall be permitted to use a cell phone out of the presence of the chaperone.

    2.       Play of the Game:
    (a)        Paranoia Rounds:

Each game is played by one Studio Contestant who is playing against three Location Contestants who will appear live on screen as well as against 10 Internet/Telephone Players. The game consists of up to 10 rounds with each round consisting of one multiple-choice question.

The game commences with the MC handing the Studio Contestant $10,000 consisting of 10 packs of $1,000 i.e. the Bank and with the Studio Contestant being credited with another $5,000 in cash to be used in the play of the Internet/Telephone game. The play of each round commences by the MC asking a multiple-choice question. After the MC completes the reading of the question, the Contestants will have approximately 10 seconds, commencing with the end of the first reading of the question by the MC, within which to select his/her answer. Contestants may not change an answer once it has been selected. In the event that a Location Contestant fails to select his/her answer within the time period allotted, such Location Contestant(s) shall be deemed to have given an incorrect answer. The Studio Contestant furnishes his/her answer prior to selecting a Location Contestant. In the event the Studio Contestant fails to answer a question correctly he/she must return $1,000 to the MC. During each round a Studio Contestant must designate at least one Location Contestant to reveal his/her answer (the Studio Contestant may select more than one Location Contestant during each round). If the Location Contestant(s)’ answer is correct he/she will win $1,000 which amount will be deducted from the monies retained in the Studio Contestant’s Bank. If the Location Contestant’s answer is incorrect, he/she will be given a strike. If a Location Contestant receives two strikes he/she is eliminated, but retains any monies he/she accumulated up to his/her elimination. Accordingly, in each round, a Studio Contestant may lose up to $4,000 by answering a question incorrectly and then selecting the three Location Contestants who each answer the question correctly.

At any time during the play of the Paranoia rounds, a Studio Contestant may eliminate one Location Contestant by agreeing to relinquish $3,000 which shall go to the Location Contestant. The game will then continue against the remaining Location Contestant(s). If a Studio Contestant relinquishes $1,000 he/she may exchange one Location Contestant for another Location Contestant. The $1,000 will go to the Location Contestant. Each of these rights may be exercised only once during the Paranoia rounds but may be exercised in the same round. If a Contestant is exchanged or terminated that Contestant retains all monies previously earned. If a Contestant is exchanged, the new Contestant inherits the game score of the exchanged Contestant. The Paranoia rounds will continue until the earlier of: the elimination of all Location Contestants prior to the end of the 10th round; the Studio Contestant losing all of his/her $10,000; or the conclusion of the 10th Paranoia round with at least one Location Contestant surviving. Only if the Studio Contestant eliminates all Location Contestants while retaining at least $1,000 in his/her Bank will the Studio Contestant be able to play the Bonus Game and retain the monies that the Contestant has in the Contestant’s Bank as well as from the Internet/Telephone game at the end of the Paranoia Rounds. If the Studio Contestant is eligible, the Studio Contestant must play the Bonus Game.

During each Paranoia round the $5,000 in cash which is furnished to the Studio Contestant to play the Internet/Telephone game will be decreased by $50 for each correct answer recorded by an Internet/Telephone Player during a round. The Studio Contestant will receive all monies retained in his/her Internet/Telephone account if the Contestant plays the Bonus Game. The cash retained by the Studio Contestant from the Internet/Telephone game is subject to increase due to the play of the Bonus Game.

    3.       Bonus Game:

The Bonus Game consists of 10 categories of questions with only the categories being revealed to the Studio Contestant prior to his/her making a selection of the category. Behind each category is a question, nine of which are worth 10 times the Studio Contestant’s Bank and one of which is worth is 100 times the Studio Contestant’s Bank (including the monies won in the Internet/Telephone Game). Each such question is a fill in the blank as contrasted with a multiple choice question. The Studio Contestant has approximately 10 seconds commencing with the end of the reading of the question by the MC to give an answer. After the Studio Contestant gives his/her answer the value of the question is revealed. If the Studio Contestant answers the question correctly, he/she will receive the value of his Bank (including the monies won in the Internet/Telephone Game) times either 10 or 100. If the Studio Contestant answers incorrectly he/she receives the monies left in his/her Bank and Internet/Telephone account.

In the event a bonus question has to be replaced after being asked, then the Studio Contestant will be asked to select another category from the nine remaining categories. If the bonus question discarded is a 100 times question, then the question attached to the next category selected by the Studio Contestant will be a 100 times question.

If at the end of a game a Studio Contestant has not earned any money he/she will receive $500.00.

  3. LOCATION CONTESTANTS:

    1.        Selection of Contestants and Security

All individuals who meet the Producer’s eligibility requirements will be eligible to qualify for the pool of Location Contestants. The selection process will include personal interviews by the Producer and the taking and passing of multiple-choice practice examinations. The Location Contestants will be selected by the Producer at his sole and absolute discretion. The obtaining of specific score does not guarantee the selection by the Producer of an individual as a Location Contestant. The failure of any Location Contestant to adhere to any security rule may result in his/her immediate disqualification and the forfeiture of any prizes previously won. The security rules include, but are not limited to, the receipt of any assistance from a third party whether audio or visual.

Before each episode, the Producer will, at his sole and complete discretion, select nine (9) Location Players who shall be eligible to play one (1) or more games as Location Contestants. Before each game Internet Players selected at random will vote on which six (6) of the nine (9) Location Contestants will play each game within an episode. The three (3) Location Contestants with the highest scores will participate in the first game. In case of a tie for the third position the Producer will make the selection between the tied Location Contestants. If a Location Contestant is swapped out or terminated by the Studio Contestant or in the event of a technical difficulty, breach of security, or inappropriate conduct which causes the termination of the Location Contestant’s participation, the Location Contestant(s) who received the next highest total(s) from the Internet Players selected at random will become a participant in that game. The Location Contestant who has been swapped out, knocked out by an elimination card, or has been terminated due to technical difficulty will be immediately placed back into the Location Contestant pool and will be eligible to be selected for any subsequent game or games in the episode. Should it become necessary in the event that each of the nine (9) Location Contestants have played in a game in an episode, then all Location Contestants who have not been eliminated because of striking out or breaching any security rule will become eligible to be selected to play in another game. In the event there are only two (2) Location Contestants available and no remaining Location Contestant is in the pool, the Producer will select as a Location Contestant a Studio Contestant who is at the studio but has not participated in that episode. All Location Contestants will appear live on screen. In the event of a tie between Location Contestants which tie requires it be broken to continue the play of the game then such tie will be broken by the Producer at his sole discretion. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Producer may, at his sole discretion, select a Location Contestant to play in a game on an episode.

On the day of broadcast, commencing with the arrival of the television crew, the Location Contestant shall have no unmonitored contact with his/her family or any member of the production team. There will be a representative of the program there to ensure that such unmonitored contact does not occur.

    2.        Play of the Game:

The Location Contestant(s) will be asked a question by the MC simultaneous with the question being asked of the Studio Contestant. They will have approximately ten (10) seconds within which to lock-in or select their answer commencing with the end of the first reading of the question by the MC. If they fail to select their answer within approximately 10 seconds, such failure shall be deemed an incorrect answer and the Location Contestant shall be given a strike regardless of whether or not called upon by the Studio Contestant. An answer once selected may not be changed. In the event of a conflict between an oral answer and a written answer the written answer will prevail. Prior to the Studio Contestant being required to select a Location Contestant, the Studio Contestant will be advised if any strike has been recorded against a Location Contestant for any reason. If a strike has been entered against a Location Contestant, the Studio Contestant must call on at least one other Location Contestant and the game proceeds. In the event that no Location Contestant has selected his or her answer within the ten second time limit, the round will be over and the next round will begin with each contestant receiving a strike,

In the event of an incorrect answer the Location Contestant will not lose any money. Only if the Location Contestant is selected by the Studio Contestant will the Location Contestant be able to win money. In the event a Location Contestant answers a question correctly, he/she will receive $1,000 which amount shall be deducted from the Studio Contestant’s Bank. In the event a Location Contestant’s appearance is terminated, the Location Contestant will be entitled to retain any monies he/she has earned up until that time unless such termination is due to a breach of a security rule.

In the event a Location Contestant completes any game, with the most money of the then playing Location Contestants he/she will retain any monies won and he eligible to become a Studio Contestant.

In the event a Location Contestant is swapped out or terminated that Location Contestant will receive the $1,000 or $3,000.

In the event a Location Contestant does not have the opportunity to play the game on any episode or in the event he/she does not win any money the Location Contestant will receive $500 in cash.

  4. THE INTERNET GAME:

Subject to an Internet Player furnishing proof of eligibility, Internet Players may play PARANOIA "live" along with the television game show on the Internet at PARANOIA.EXCITE.COM. During the television broadcast, Internet Players will answer the same multiple choice questions as the Studio and Location Contestants. No answer selected by an Internet Player will be counted towards his/her score unless the answer is received within approximately ten (10) seconds from the first asking of the question. Internet will receive 1,000 points for every correct answer and 250 points will be deducted for every incorrect answer. The highest scoring Internet Players each one-hour episode will be entered into the Location Contestant pool. From that pool, the Producer may select, at his discretion, subject to the completion of Producer’s standard selection procedures, some of these high scorers to appear as Location Contestants in future episodes. The five (5) top scorers will receive a prize. If there are more than five (5) top scorers, ties will be broken by a random computer selection. The winners will be required to submit proof of eligibility within a specified period of time in order to receive the prize.

Additionally, for each multiple-choice question in each round of the Game there will be a contest in which five (5) Internet Players will be selected at random to answer that one question. If the selected Internet Player answers the question correctly, he or she will win $50. Internet Players are chosen at random from all the Internet Players. The Internet Players who answer a question correctly will receive an e-mail describing the redemption procedure required to obtain the $50.

  5. TELEPHONE GAME:

Subject to a Telephone Player furnishing proof of eligibility there will be a contest in which Live (5) Telephone Players will be selected at random to answer the same multiple-choice question asked of the Studio and Location Contestants. The answer must be given by the Telephone Player to the Telephone Operator approximately ten (10) seconds from the reading of the question. If the Telephone Player answers the question correctly, he or she will win $50.

  6. BONUS QUESTION

Once within each live episode one Internet and one Telephone Contestant will be selected at random to answer one multiple-choice question which will not be asked of the Studio or Location Contestants. If answered correctly, that player will win a computer prize package.

As regards the Studio Contestant, in the event of a technical difficulty, or answer being inadvertently revealed, or an answer being heard from the audience before all answers are selected, then that question will be discarded and the round will continue with the asking of a subsequent question.
